Absence Procedure

Parents or guardians must call the Attendance Office (531-3079) between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. if a student is going to be absent or tardy, or leave school for an appointment. If the parent explains on the student’s first day of absence that the student will be gone for an extended time, in the hospital, long illness, etc. then the parent need not call back everyday. A parent who is out of town or cannot call because of unusual circumstances must call the high school the day he/she returns. The purpose of the phone call is to notify the school authorities that the parent is aware of the student’s absence from school.  THE PHONE CALL DOES NOT GUARANTEE AN EXCUSED ABSENCE. Secretaries answering the phones will ask the reason for the student’s absence. If there are unusual circumstances for a student’s absence, parents should ask to speak with an administrator.

If there is no phone in the home, the student should bring a note from home and report to the attendance office before classes start in the morning on the day he/she returns to school. The note should contain the student’s name, date of absences, reason for absence, and the parent’s signature.
