International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma |
|
Valparaiso High School is one of only five schools in Indiana authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Program to its students. The IB curriculum is recognized around the globe for its depth of study and its focus on educating the whole person by requiring students to share their talents through service to the community. Students who wish to pursue either an IB Diploma or IB Certificates select pre-IB courses in grades 9 and 10 which are the prerequisites for IB classes taken in the junior and senior years. The academic rigor of IB classes offers students the opportunity to earn college credit for work done in high schools. Through comprehensive and balanced curricula coupled with challenging assessments, the International Baccalaureate Organization aims to assist schools in their endeavors to develop the individual talents of young people and teach them to relate the experience of the classroom to the realities of the world outside. Beyond intellectual rigor and high academic standards, strong emphasis is placed on the ideals of international understanding and responsible citizenship. To this end, the IB students may become critical and compassionate thinkers, lifelong learners and informed participants in local and world affairs, conscious of the shared humanity that binds all people together while respecting the variety of cultures and attitudes that makes for the richness of life.
