Indiana Core 40 Graduation Requirements
Part 1 – 29 Credits – Requirements listed below:
LANGUAGE ARTS   8 credits    9th grade – 2 credits English 9
                                            10th grade – 2 credits English 10*
                                            11th grade – 1 credit Am Lit and 1 credit Composition**
                                            12th grade – 1 credit English 12*** and 1 credit Speech
*Honors English 10 = 2 credits (fulfills Am Lit requirement)
** World Lit IB fulfills the Composition requirement.  Am Lit/US Hist block class also fulfills composition reqmt ***English Lit/Comp IB/AP fulfills English 12 reqmnt.
 
MATH                    6 credits   2 credits Algebra I
                                            2 credits Geometry
                                            2 credits Algebra II
*Only math classes taken during grades 9 – 12 will fulfill Core 40 requirements.
 
SCIENCE               6 credits     2 credits Biology I,
                                            2 credits Chem I OR Integrated Chem/Physics (ICP),
                                            2 credits from Physics, Earth/Space Science,
                                            Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Zoology,
                                            or Advanced Biology, Chemistry or Physics
All students are required to take a Math or Physics course during Jr. or Sr. year.
 
SOCIAL STUDIES   6 credits      2 credits World History/Civ. or Geography/Hist. of
                                             the World
                                             2 credits U.S. History
                                             1 credit Government
                                             1 credit Economics
 
PHYSICAL ED.      2 credits       2 semesters 9th grade P.E. I & II (includes 9 wks
                                              swimming)

HEALTH             1 credit         1 credit Health Education

Part 2 – DIRECTED ELECTIVES – 5 Credits
Any combination of the following classes:
WORLD LANGUAGES               French, German, Japanese, Latin, or Spanish
*Only World Languages taken during grades 9 – 12 will fulfill the Directed Elective Core 40 Requirement.

FINE ARTS                             Art, Music, Dance, or Drama

CAREER/TECHNICAL              Business, Family & Consumer Science, Technology Ed.,
                                            or Technical /Career
 
Part 3 – ELECTIVES - 6 Credits – College & Career Pathway recommended
Career or Academic classes within a related area (Business, Family/Consumer Science, Tech Ed, Career/Technical)
