Child Protective Services (CPS) - Reporting

According to Indiana state law, anyone age 18 and over is considered a mandated reporter of child abuse and/or neglect.  This means that if you have concerns about abuse or neglect, you should call the hotline and report your concerns.  The hotline is available 24/7 - including weekends and holidays.  You can report anonymously.

Indiana Code 31-33-5-2 requires school employees to immediately report suspected child abuse or neglect to the Department of Child Services (DCS) or to a local law enforcement agency.  The reporter must then notify the principal or the principal's designee that a report has been made.  The person who first suspects child abuse or neglect must be the one to report the matter immediately. Employees should use the following  procedural checklist and district form to ensure that the district procedures are followed fully.
