VCS Board Recognizes VHS 5A Football State Championship Team and Award Recipients

The Valparaiso High School Football Team was recognized at the December 15 School Board Meeting.  Head Coach Bill Marshall offered remarks and recounted the team's resiliency and tenacity in their state championship run.  He described the program's continued focus on developing well-rounded student/athletes and community members. The Vikings - embodying their 2022 motto, "Against All Odds" - finished their State Championship season with an 11-3 record, winning their final four games by a combined 13 points, including a 35-31 thriller in their IHSAA 5A State Championship matchup with Whiteland on November 26, 2022.
 
Senior Team Captain Connor McCall was recognized as the 2022 5A Football Phil N. Eskew Mental Attitude Award recipient from the Indiana High School Athletic Association.
 
In addition, Marshall was recognized as the 2022 5A Head Football Coach of the Year along with defensive coordinator Sam Bernardi recognized as 2022 5A Assistant Football Coach of the Year by the Indiana Football Coaches Association.
