We hope that today finds you well-rested from spring break and that you are able to safely clear any debris and have electricity soon if affected by the tremendous storm yesterday. VCS buildings were fortunate to have suffered only minor damage to a few fences and our crews are working to remove the debris and cut down any other "leaners" that may pose potential risk. Likewise, there were five buildings that lost power yesterday with only two still remaining today without power. Our crews worked swiftly to attend to the damage while also transporting any perishables from those buildings to the high school for safe storage. We thank them for their work and for the reminder that we are who we are because of our people.
With that in mind, we do want to give advance warning that NIPSCO has informed us of the possibility that MEMORIAL ELEMENTARY and the CAREER CENTER may still be without power come tomorrow (4/1/25); yes, we assure you this is no April Fool's Day joke. If power is not restored at those locations, then Memorial Elementary School would be canceled for the day while the Career Center classes would shift to eLearning. We hope that is not the case, but we wanted to make sure that proper contingency arrangements could be made should power not be restored in time. A status update will be sent to Memorial and Career Center families Tuesday morning by 6am as well as posted to our website regardless of results.
Through it all, please be safe and help each other as we work together as a community through this phase of the storm.
