Elementary Human Sexuality
One of the challenges parents and educators witness is the onset of puberty during the pre-teen years. During this stage of growth and development, it is important that parents be involved in the educational process.
The window of opportunity for providing the most factual, accurate information to our students at the most developmentally appropriate age is now. We would like to inform parents of our curriculum, which is designed to meet current legislative requirements. Girls and boys are divided into separate classrooms. Videos will be shown, followed by a question-and-answer session. During this educational experience, students greatly benefit from sharing questions and concerns voiced by their peers. Our goal, however, is to facilitate communication between parent and child. Parents/guardians have the major responsibility to convey the moral and religious values unique to your family. Helping boys and girls understand their adolescent changes and those of others is vital to becoming tomorrow's responsible adults.
Below you will find a summary of the topics that will be discussed in each grade. Parents are welcome to preview the instructional materials used. Please contact the school nurse to arrange a convenient date and time if you would like to preview or discuss the curriculum.
Your child's school will contact you with more details closer to the actual date.
