  • Comparison of asexual vs sexual reproduction in living things (biology state standards B.4.4 and B.4.5 regarding cell division and genetics)
  • Reproductive system of the human and the rat

 

Nature of Instruction:

  • Biology students will participate in a discussion and read materials describing genetic diversity achieved through sexual reproduction of plants and animals compared to simple organisms, which reproduce asexually through cloning.
  • Students will also participate in the identification of structure and function, classroom discussion, and anatomical dissection.




Environmental Science

  • Meiosis review (formation of sex cells), differential reproduction, fertility rates, demographic trends, family planning, sexually transmitted diseases, endocrine system, hormone exposure, unsafe sex, risk exposure, and risk management

Nature of Instruction:

  • Environmental Science students will participate in discussions, reading assignments, videos, and activities related to ecosystem diversity, natural ecosystem change, population biology concepts, the human population, global economics, pollution types, and impacts on the environment and human health. Human population topics will focus heavily on high fertility rates and solutions to lower them such as education, employment, equality, and family planning.



Anatomy & Physiology

  • Anatomy and Physiology of the Human Reproductive System

Nature of Instruction:

  • Periodic instruction on aspects of human sexuality related to the various body systems throughout the school year. This will include detailed coverage of the human reproductive anatomy and physiology the final two weeks in May

  • Class discussion, lecture, presentation that deals with the family, changing morals of the sexual revolution, and health and wellness issues such as the AIDS crisis.

  • Class discussion surrounding a variety of topics that might include topics relating to human sexuality issues that are in the news
