Choir
WHY: Recently in music class your child learned about some of the choral opportunities available to middle school students in Valparaiso. We want to make sure that as a parent, you too receive this information. Valparaiso is fortunate to have one of the top high school choirs in the state of Indiana and a choral program that offers many opportunities to our young musicians. Our middle school choir students will learn to read music and have opportunities to perform as soloists and in groups. Our high school students have the opportunity to travel, and a number of our highly-trained vocal students even earn college scholarships. Studies consistently tell us that students who participate in performing groups have improved standardized test scores and increased academic success, so we know you will want to encourage your children to take advantage of these opportunities.
WHEN: Choir in middle school is a class that meets everyday during one of the allied arts periods. It does not conflict with a student’s ability to participate in sports or other after school activities. Students do receive a grade in choir, and it does require 3-4 concerts outside of the school day. Students have one week at the beginning of the school year to add or drop choir from their schedule. Unfortunately, students who are in band or orchestra may not also be in choir, as the classes meet at the same time.
The students still have one week at the beginning of the school year to add or drop choir from their schedule.
A minimal book rental fee will be added to the student’s registration fees for this course.
Please contact us with any questions you might have. We look forward to meeting and working with your children!
